ZAC WURTH

Originally from Westside in Omaha, Zac Wurth played at UNL 2004 ’07 as a loose forward, mainly 8-man.

His post-rugby playing resume is impressive as he played for the Denver Barbarians 2008-2010, Vail Rugby 2011-2019 where they were the Mountain League Champs 2012-2018 as well as the Triple Crown Champs in 2016 having won the Mountain League, Cow Pie Tournament in Steamboat, and the Ski Town Tourney Champs.  He also played for “The Willing” at Ruggerfest in 2013 and “The Misfits”at Ruggerfest in 2015.

Some of his favorite UNL memories are:

·       Whiskey 10’s in Chicago and Western finals in Greeley.

·       Koss vs. Oklahoma – “Besides watching Koss boot every player at every chance he got.  In Oklahoma, Koss was at the top of a six-person ruck high stepping on top of both their players and ours.  What an ass!”

·       Jackalope – “We were playing CU at Jackalope.  Our number 9 got hurt, and I was playing scrummy for the first and only time in my career.  We were winning and time was up.  It was our scrum and all I had to do was kick the ball out of bounds to win the game.  The CU boys were harassing me to keep the ball in play.  I picked the ball from the back of the scrum and ran 40 meters for the try as time expired and gave shit to the CU boys all night at the bar.  Russo was not happy with me.”

Zach is currently fundraising for a new business venture called the Family Fun Mind Center which is a trampoline park family entertainment center that provides mental health and sports psychology treatments.  He has been a mechanical engineer PE in the state of Colorado since 2014.  Former UNL rugger Scott Calahan helped secure him his first engineering job in Denver in 2009.
